Food Waste

If your business generates any food waste, you must separate it from your recycling and general waste.

Our commercial food waste service can collect and recycle all your cooked and uncooked food waste.

We can also recycle out of date or mouldy food removed from its packaging.

Food waste that can be put out for recycling:

 Plate scrapings and uneaten food
 Dairy Products, eggs and egg shells
 Bread, cake and pastries
 Cooked or raw meat and fish, including bones
 Tea bags, loose tea leaves and coffee grounds
 Raw or cooked fruits and vegetables including peelings
 Cooked or uncooked rice, pasta and beans

Do not put in your food recycling:

 Food Packaging of any kind
 Liquids such as milk
 Oil or liquid fat
 Any material that is not food waste
 Black or non-transparent plastic pags

How to recycle food waste

 Collect any food waste in any clear or opaque bin liners. We are not able to recycle food waste in black liners.

 The bin liner does not need to be compostable or recyclable. 

 Place full liners of food waste into your food waste outdoor caddy or bin.

 Put your food waste caddy or bin out on the agreed collection day. Your food waste is collected weekly.

What happens to my food waste once it has been collected?

Your food waste is taken to an Anaerobic Digester plant.

 Up to 75,000 tonnes of solid and liquid organic waste is treated at the facility each year, which is turned into biomethane and sent to the gas grid.

 The site also produces an excellent biofertiliser which is spread on local farmland.
