Data protection and information management
Data Protection legislation sets rules and conditions which organisations such as councils must obey when collecting and using information about you, and give you certain rights which must be respected.
Why does the Council keep personal information?
As a Local Authority, we collect, hold and process information supplied by you in accordance with Data Protection legislation to allow us to provide services effectively and fulfil our legal obligations.
What are your rights of access to your personal records?
You have the right to:
- Ask the Council if it holds personal information about you;
- Request a copy of that information (called a Subject Access Request), including supplementary information, which verifies the lawfulness of processing.
