Records management

The council follows a code of practice to ensure our records are secure and organised..

The council holds a large amount of information to enable it to carry out its functions. This information may relate to specific topics or individuals, and it includes records kept by the council of decisions and actions taken, and the reasons for them. This is an essential support for effective, evidence-based policy-making and service delivery.

It is, therefore, important for us to look after our business information effectively throughout the organisation, in whatever format it is held (paper documents, electronic documents, third party software, and so on).

A Code of Practice issued under Section 46 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides guidance for public authorities on the records management practices they should follow.

Additionally, Data Protection legislation requires that appropriate procedures and security measures are in place to ensure the security of personal data.
