Public Liability Insurance

The council collects personal information about you in order to process, investigate, and negotiate any potential claim.  The legal basis for this processing is legal obligation under the law of tort.

Medical information is classed as ‘special category’ data, and is processed in accordance with Article 9(2)(g), substantial public interest.

The data collected is:

• Name
• Contact details
• Witness details
• Images
• Health

We collect personal information primarily from you and we may sometimes collect additional information from third parties including GP, Hospital or the Police.

Your information will be collected and shared within the council’s Insurance Department, Zurich Insurance plc and their loss adjusters. Their Privacy Notice can be found here.

This information will be retained for 6 years from the date of completion of a claim, I.e., processed and paid, or closed with no payment made.

This information will not be shared/sold to any other service/organisation unless we have a duty to do so under law. This data will not be transferred outside of the EEA.
