The Bromsgrove Hotel
In March, in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Home Office removed the need to agree accommodation with local authorities in order to ensure sufficient accommodation for the increased number of asylum seekers.
Soon after public services provider Serco then took the decision that the Bromsgrove Hotel was an appropriate accommodation to enable the Home Office to carry out its statutory obligations to house asylum seekers. Serco procured the hotel and is responsible for the security at the premises.
As soon as we found out about this decision, along with partners we engaged with UK Visas And Immigration (UKVI) to find out more about the process and what this means for our district and our front line services.
We continue to work with partners including Worcestershire County Council to maintain a dialogue with these agencies, and we are referring queries we receive on this matter to the Home Office and Serco.
