Following the success of the first six week pain relief course, more residents will now have the opportunity try it out as the Escape Pain sessions continue.
Previously the classes were set up on a referral basis but now anyone who would like to give them a go can do so at weekly sessions.
Running at 2.15pm every Thursday at Bromsgrove Leisure Centre, the sessions will cost £3.30 and will be open to the whole community.
Cllr Peter Whittaker said: “Whilst the sessions are most suitable for people suffering from arthritis in their knees or hips, the escape pain course can help anyone who would like to find a better way to deal with pain. It teaches simple techniques, exercises and understanding which could help anybody whether it is back, shoulder or neck pain they are suffering with. Sign up today and see how it could help you.”
Neil Burton who completed the six week course said: “I am moving with more confidence and am in less pain.”
ESCAPE-pain is a rehabilitation programme for people with joint and muscular pain that integrates educational self-management and coping strategies with an exercise regimen. It helps people understand their condition, teaches them simple things they can help themselves with, and takes them through a progressive exercise programme so they learn how to cope with pain better.
ESCAPE-pain can:
•    Reduce pain
•    Improve physical function
•    Improve the psychosocial consequences of pain
•    Reduce healthcare and utilisation costs
