Residents who pay their council tax by direct debit will receive the £150 rebate within the next few weeks.

Bromsgrove District Council have now received this funding from the Government and officers are working to get this out to residents as soon as possible.

Residents who pay by Direct Debit on the 1st of every month may have already received payment or are expected to receive the rebate within the next three days, and those who pay on the 15, 21 and 28 of the month will receive it shortly after.

The payments will be made by 29th May 2022 but may take a few days to reach residents’ bank accounts.

There is no need to apply for the rebate if you already pay your council tax by direct debit. The one-off payment will automatically be credited to your account.

Residents who do not pay by Direct Debit, will be contacted to advise what they need to do to claim the payment. The council will ask residents to complete a form which will be held on their website and to avoid scams, officers will direct these residents to the right page, rather than sending links.

Please be aware: Bromsgrove District Council are NOT calling any residents about the £150 rebate so any approach to do this is a scam.

Executive Director of Resources James Howse said: “Our officers have been working hard behind the scenes to make sure that the infrastructure was in place to get this out as quickly as possible to residents. “Now that we’ve received the money residents who pay by direct debit should start seeing it hit their bank accounts in the next three weeks or so.

“We’ve already paid out £1,624,950 to nearly 11,000 residents in the last day or so.

“If you’re not on Direct Debit it may take a little longer to verify accounts but we’ll be contacting these residents from May 2 to sort this out. Please be on your guard for any scams as this is, unfortunately, a prime opportunity for scammers.

“We thank residents for their patience and ask that they bear with us while we get the process underway.”

The rebate is designed to help people deal with rising energy prices and is a one off £150 non-repayable rebate for households in England residing in properties Council tax bands A-D. There will be one £150 payment made per household. This rebate is not affected by the number of occupants in the household or the Council Tax payers named on the bill.
