Chairman Tees Off For Charity
Bromsgrove District Council’s chairman teed off her first fundraiser in style boosting the coffers of a Bromsgrove charity by nearly £2,000.
The chosen charity of this year’s chairman, Cllr Sam Ammar, is Age UK, Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest and a golf and dinner event proved to be a hole in one.
Hosted by Cllr Ammar the event saw lots of sponsorship from local business who also put together teams of golfers as well as Alvechurch Football Club and the parish council.
Guests also included leaders of all the Council’s political groups including Cllrs Karen May, Peter McDonald and Rob Hunter as well as trustees and chairman of the charity.
Cllr Ammar said: “I was delighted to see members of all our political parties coming together to support older people, their families and carers in our communities.”
The District’s branch of Age UK is funded locally and is close to Cllr Ammar’s heart as, while campaigning for the last election she met an elderly man called John who had recently lost his wife.
She added: “Of all the doors I knocked on and all the conversations I had, my chat with John remained with me throughout the day and beyond.
“So when council colleagues gave me the privilege to represent them as chairman, I knew that the charity I wanted to support for the year ahead would be one that helps people liked John.
“Age UK does just that and is it my honour to support them locally and know that each penny will help Bromsgrove’s residents.
The event was held at the weekend at Bromsgrove Golf Centre.
