Pink Vehicle Marks Record Year for Business Recycling

A new pink waste vehicle has hit the roads in Bromsgrove and the surrounding areas following a record year for business recycling.

Bromsgrove District Council’s Commercial Waste Team welcomed a brand new, brightly coloured vehicle to their fleet to help keep up with demand and celebrate an incredibly successful year for the service and local businesses.

Over the past 12 months the service has seen an increase in the amount of recycling being collected from business customers who generated more than 240 tonnes of additional recyclable material from the previous year.

The milestone follows the successful introduction of the council's commercial food waste collection service and demonstrates the increasing number of businesses choosing to get rid of their waste in a more sustainable manner.

Matching the council's pink recycling bins and standing out from the rest of the fleet, the new vehicle will support the continued growth of commercial waste services and increased demand for recycling and food waste collections from local businesses.

Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, Cllr Peter Whittaker, said: “It is fantastic to see demand for the service continuing to grow to the point where we need a new vehicle to support it. Our teams are doing a brilliant job in providing this service, but the real success story is the contribution of local businesses, who have generated the equivalent of around 20 double decker buses in extra recycling."

The council's Commercial Waste Service provides waste, recycling and food waste collections for businesses, organisations and events of all sizes, helping organisations manage waste more sustainably and supporting the council’s environmental objectives as laid out in the council plan.

Leader of the council and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Cllr Karen May, said: “A strong local economy and a healthy environment go hand in hand and while the new vehicle is certainly hard to miss, it also represents a practical investment in a service that continues to grow and do good. Local businesses are embracing greener ways of working and we are proud to support that journey."
