Step Inside Local History with Heritage Open Days

Residents and visitors are invited to explore their local history as this year’s programme of FREE Heritage Open Days events is launched.

The annual celebration of history, culture and community will once again see heritage buildings, community organisations, and local attractions opening their doors for a packed programme of free events, tours, exhibitions, talks, and activities.

Everyone is invited to attend as many events as they can across the 10-day festival, enter three or more and you can enter the Heritage Hunters competition for the opportunity to win prizes.

Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Shirley Webb, said: "Every year Heritage Open Days gives us the chance to see familiar places in a completely new way. From fascinating tours and talks to hidden buildings that aren't usually open to the public, there are so many unique experiences to enjoy. I can't wait to see residents getting involved and exploring everything this year’s programme has to offer."

Whether you're keen to uncover hidden history, visit fascinating buildings not usually open to the public, or learn more about the people and places that have shaped the borough, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

To help people plan their visit, printed Heritage Open Days 2026 booklets are now available to collect free of charge from locations across the district, including:

  • Local libraries
  • Council Customer Services at Parkside
  • Local supermarkets
  • Selected community venues

Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, offering thousands of free experiences across the country and providing unique opportunities for people to connect with their local heritage.

Many events are expected to be popular, and some activities may require advance booking, so residents are encouraged to check event details early in the booklet or online at: https://www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/things-to-do/heritage-open-days/heritage-open-days-2026/
