Couch to 5K
Want to ditch the couch and start running!
We're launching our new Couch to 5K programme across different locations in the District at Lickey End Recreation Ground, Sanders Park and Catshill Meadow.
The 9 week course is designed for absolute beginners, so whether you’ve never run before, or if you want to get back into being more active, Couch to 5K is an easy way of getting fitter and more healthy.
Starting with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina, over a nine week professionally-coached course you will become able and confident to run five kilometres.
From Monday 20th September
Mondays - 6:30pm at Lickey End Recreation Ground
Tuesdays - 7pm at Catshill Meadow
Wednesdays - 6pm at Sanders Park
Thursdays - 9:30am at Catshill Meadow
You can mix and match which session you attend each week or attend the same session consistently, its up to you.
It will only cost £9 for the whole course which you'll need to pay online by clicking here and selecting "Leisure", "Couch to 5K" and the venue where you'll be attending your first session from the drop down boxes.
Couch to 5k is supported by the NHS and uses a series of downloadable podcasts that structure each run with music and coaching to develop running technique, speed and stamina progressively over time, as well as a special smartphone app.
The free Couch to 5k app and podcasts are available from the NHS here.
Many graduates from local Couch to 5k groups go on to join local running groups - including parkrun - and continue a new healthier lifestyle. You can see the Run Bromsgrove information sheet for details of local running groups, these groups welcome graduates from the C25K programme and are their to help you continue running with like minded people in a safe environment.
Regular brisk exercise can help reduce the risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke, boost your mood and keep your weight under control.
