The first drive-in movie experience at Sanders Park has been hailed a success after being enjoyed by over one thousand visitors.
The movie experience, which took place across two weekends in August, was brought to the park by Blue Sky Cinema in partnership with Bromsgrove District Council’s Parks and Events Team in a bid to bring fun and interesting events back to the park in a way which was safe for residents and visitors.
During these uncertain times, the screening allowed visitors to enjoy a trip out to the cinema in a safe and secure environment but with all of the usual niceties, food and drink.
Over the course of two weekends, there were eighteen films shown so, whether you preferred singing along at full volume to Mamma Mia and Grease, the latest blockbuster hits like Joker or Rocketman, or educating your children with household favourites like Back to the Future and Jurassic Park, there was something to suit everyone’s tastes.
The reviews speak for themselves, with lots of visitors hoping that the drive-in returns in the future:
“Fantastic experience. Would recommend this to all my friends and family. Great set up, sound was amazing and most helpful staff taking care of your every need. 100% recommend this.”
“Family movie time watching Jurassic Park at Sanders Park in Bromsgrove. From arriving everything was well organised and explained clearly. Sounds quality is excellent and not too many cars so everyone gets a good clear view. The guys and girls that run this clearly want you to enjoy the experience and seem to enjoy it too. We spoiled ourselves with the Gold Circle Package for a bit of gratuitous fun after six months of cancelled events and holidays. Well we certainly felt like celebrities. Food and drink prices fairly and good quality so no need to visit Domino’s or Maccies before you go. I can’t wait for these guys to come back for Halloween & Christmas. 10 out of 10 from us!”
“Went this afternoon 8/8/20 to watch grease with my daughter, in Bromsgrove...and WOW, loved every minute. Great staff, super friendly, and very organised. Had food which was lovely and hot, good service and very reasonably priced, needless to say I'm coming back on the 22/8/20 with the girls for Dirty Dancing WELL DONE GUYS AND GALS”
“First visit to a drive-in cinema and couldn't fault it. Great view and sound quality. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Felt totally safe and will definitely come again”
“Just watched bohemian rhapsody in sanders park, it was great, brilliant sound and really lovely staff to help you well worth a visit.”
Cllr Phil Thomas, whose portfolio covers leisure and cultural services, said: “I must say a huge thank you to our Parks and Events Team who worked tirelessly alongside contractors to give some enjoyment to our residents at a time when so many have had so much taken away. The comments speak for themselves and it was clearly very well received.
“The team thought outside of the box to bring something exciting and different to our park. Although many of our usual events have already been cancelled due to crowding and Covid restrictions, I’ve no doubt they will be creative and continue to bring enjoyable, positive entertainment to Bromsgrove during these strange and difficult times.”
Ian Taylor, Managing Director of Blue Sky Cinema, said: “I’d like to thank Bromsgrove Council for providing the opportunity for Blue Sky Cinema to bring these great value movie experiences to local people at Sanders Park. The feedback from visitors has been fantastic and I really hope that the drive-in movies can become a regular feature in Bromsgrove’s events programme. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket and helped make the event a success. We hope we’ve brought some fun and happiness to you during this unusual time.”
During this unprecedented time, Bromsgrove District Council’s Parks and Events Team will continue to work together and with contractors to provide safe, fun and affordable entertainment in Bromsgrove Parks and open spaces.
