A family fun day with a green, sustainable, eco-friendly theme will be coming to Bromsgrove this August.

The Green Fun Day will be taking place at Sanders Park on Sunday August 14, and promises to feature free, family-friendly stalls, entertainment and displays for everyone to enjoy.

Throughout the day, there will be a range of demonstrations, including circus skills with Juggling Jim and a variety of other fun children’s activities.

Visitors will also get to see “Sparky” the Robot who is made completely from recycled materials and crowds will be entertained – and exercised – by this year’s special feature, live music from a pedal powered stage! Live music will be provided by nine-piece party band, Brass Beatz.

Tom Evans from Reaction Bike Power said: “Come along and get some exercise by powering the band and learning about the value of a Watt at the same time. All the power for the music is provided by the audience cycling on stationary bikes. It’s really something special. You'll be surprised how well it works; you might even wonder why all events don’t do this!”

In keeping with the theme, an electric car display has been organised by a number of local garages from around the district to show residents the benefits of buying electric.

Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Climate Change, Cllr Michael Thompson, said: "I’m really pleased that we’re hosting a Green Fun Day. Sustainability and climate change are very real issues for this and subsequent generations. In order to meet the challenges they bring, society has to become more aware of how, together, we can become greener. This is not something any government or local government will achieve alone. Rather, it is achieved as a community and, hence, the green fun day is a way we can all learn together."

The event will run from 12 – 4.30pm. There is free entry and parking on site. Residents are encouraged to walk or take public transport to the event to reduce the carbon needed to get there.

Cllr Thompson added: “I am proud that as a council we are leading the way with our leisure services, reassessing the way we do things and the sustainability of our events, as well as encouraging residents to do the right thing too. Being greener doesn’t have to be difficult, all it takes is a bit of creative thinking - like a pedal-powered stage - and small changes in our day to day lives to make a big difference.”

The Green Fun Day is being organised as part of the Bromsgrove Summer Fun programme, providing a range of fun activities for all the family to enjoy in Sanders Park over the summer period.

Outdoor performances are subject to change/cancellation due to poor weather conditions.
