As of today visitors to Bromsgrove can now pay for their parking across the town in more ways than ever, as all the new systems go live.

The improvements which see shoppers now able to pay by card, phone, app or cash, is also more accessible for people with disabilities as all of the car parks are now barrier free and there is no need to pay on foot.

In line with the ongoing plan for parking improvements in the town, Churchfields, which is also home to Shopmobility, has now officially been moved to a permit only or pay by app and telephone solution.

The new system at Churchfields means that residents using the car park can pay on the day by app, via website or over the phone for their parking, or they can purchase a permit to park here. Anyone who still wishes to use cash or card instead is able to park at the nearby car park directly outside Asda, at Recreation Road.

This is alongside changes to the town’s seven other car parks recently completed in the town which now accept cash, card, app, website and telephone payments.

Cllr Karen May, Leader of Bromsgrove Council, said: “We have carried out extensive consultation with car park users and there was an overwhelming majority of people who wanted a cashless system, and a full equalities assessment also took place.”

“While Churchfields has gone totally digital, you can still pay by telephone and our other seven car parks allow people to pay in a number of ways.”

“Our officers have done a fantastic job of modernising parking services in Bromsgrove over the past two years.

“Something which started as a response to the pandemic and the need for contactless payments, has evolved as a wider project across all of our car parks which means that in Bromsgrove, we now have the most parking payment options anywhere in Worcestershire.”

Cashless options for parking payments were publicly consulted on in late 2021 and a decision has now been made to install new machines based on this feedback. Results from the consultation showed that over 60% of respondents wanted some form of card option whilst very few preferred cash.

Residents wishing to use the app to park at Churchfields are able to download it to apple or android devices or by using the online portal at: wanttopark.com/Bromsgrove. They can also scan QR code, NPC or AppClip on the day to select a duration and pay for parking. Anyone needing extra help or wanting to pay by phone can go to mipermit.com/help or call 0345 520 7007.

Regular car park users are advised to apply for a virtual permit for the long stay pay and display car parks as this could provide significant savings.
