Residents are invited to join the Chairman of the Council, Cllr Rod Laight, and Rev Ray Khan later this month for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Service.

Each year, a service is held for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) to remember the millions of people killed in the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Cllr Rod Laight, said: “It is important that every year we set aside time as a community to remember and think about the tragedy and atrocity of the Holocaust, so that such a thing may never be allowed to happen again. All residents are welcome to attend and share in this moment of reflection.”

The Bromsgrove Memorial Service will take place in Sanders Park, by the Bandstand and Memorial plaque, at 11am on Friday 27th January. The event is open to all.

The short service will also be attended by some local Middle and High Schools, with both High Schools performing songs at the bandstand in recognition of the event.

This year up and down the county the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is “Ordinary People” and highlights the ordinary people who let genocide happen, the ordinary people who actively perpetrated genocide, and the ordinary people who were persecuted

HMD takes place on 27 January each year for, as stated by the HMD Trust, “everyone to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.”

In The Holocaust 11 million people including six million Jews were systematically murdered in Europe between 1941-45 by the Nazis and their collaborators. It is the worst genocide in history.
