Work to install solar panels at the Council’s Parkside headquarters has started.

Scaffolding has been erected at the building in Market Street and installation of solar panels set to be completed in the next couple of weeks.

Parkside office lights have been replaced with LED lighting with the final ones being put in the library meaning the whole building will be aglow with them.

The flow on the water feature in the courtyard is now also powered by solar with panels already in place at the Bromsgrove depot and Artrix building.

The Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 which means it will place this at the centre of its decision-making process and aims to reduce our carbon emission by 50% by 2030 and achieve Net Zero by 2040. Bromsgrove District Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Steven Colella, said: “I am delighted that the Council’s buildings will be making an impact as we work together to address the climate change emergency.

“And as a Council I hope we can continue to influence carbon emissions outside of our own activities by keeping our residents informed about efficient and affordable choices which can save energy, and money, for them at the same time.”

A carbon reduction strategy and action plan has helped steer the Council to continue to reach its aims.

Council Leader Karen May added: “These latest works demonstrate that we are still leading by example.”
