Make Every Day A Good Air Day

Worcestershire residents can keep an eye on the air quality in their area – thanks to an interactive mapping system.

In the run up to national Clean Air Day, on June 19th, Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) is encouraging residents to visit the portal to check on the clean air in their locality and to take action to improve and maintain standards.

Top tips on the site include parking the car for short journeys, not burning household rubbish, maintaining wood-burning stoves – and using the right fuel – or conference calling rather than travelling to a meeting.

Worcestershire Regulatory Services Chair Cllr Helen Jones, said: “We are talking here about literally the air which we breathe.

“Making small changes to our everyday lives can have a massive impact on our future and by working together we can make a difference and provide a clean and green environment for our residents, now and in the future.”

Clean Air Day is an initiative launched annually by Global Air Plan dedicated to raising awareness about air pollution and encouraging actions to improve air quality.

Head of WRS Simon Wilkes said: “We have worked with EarthSense to provide an interactive map which shows the live air quality status of areas where we have placed monitors. “While air pollution affects everyone, but not equally so air quality actions also differ from place to place.

“We want to provide as much information to our residents to spark interest, raise awareness and encourage behaviour changes and the run up to Clean Air Day seemed the perfect time to do this.”

There’s lots of tips and information, as well as the portal, at Air Quality | Worcestershire Regulatory Services Officers will also be out and about at local events, including the Green Fair event at Sanders Park on 7 June, to spread the word and posters are being put up with a QR code to link to the portal.
